Snow Day

Thanks to our snow day yesterday, I finally finished two projects I've been working on:

A painting (watercolor)
A book (watercolored pages, buttonhole binding)
And the kids got to play in the snow...
...until they realized that "it's really cold out there."

Two pictures I like

While I'm sharing... I like these pictures.

Baseball

Before you see this video, let me tell you that Kawika had been doing this all afternoon, with the same result. It always came back to hit him and he always got annoyed, and made me kiss the place it hit but, of course, when we decided to take a video it was right before naptime and he was already a bit emotional. I just thought I would share it anyway.

Kitty Say What?

It's amazing to think of how far we've come from the Commodore 128 I used to use to play Paperboy. It's an amazing thought in my brain as I watch Iwalani navigate YouTube flawlessly on her daddy's iPod. I actually had a computer class in middle school and one of the lessons was about how to use a mouse and she's been doing it for a long time like it's a born skill. It blows my mind. Anyhow, here's her favorite YouTube video:

Kitty Say What?

...and now that we're all sufficiently creeped out....

I got the black lung, pop.

We took Leilea to the doctor this week because her little cold turned into a gnarly cough and very loud breathing. They gave us a breathing treatment in the office and made us wait to see if we were going to have to go ahead to the ER.

It was pretty scary, but that girl is something else! She never had a fever, or even acted much like she didn't feel well. While the nurse was trying to count her respirations, something about her was cracking Leilea up. She had to get another nurse to count the breaths because Leilea wouldn't stop giggling long enough to get a good count.

She's much, much better now and we never had to go to the hospital, thank goodness. I just love that happy, chubby baby... even when she sounds like a coal miner with the black lung.

Pink eyes and NyQuil dreams

I haven't posted in a while. Sorry 'bout that. We're just enjoying the cold and flu season with three small children who have very limited concepts of hygiene and personal boundaries... and pink eye... let's not forget about that.

At least they're sharing, right?

So now I'm going to put drops in my eyes, blow my nose, toast my husband with our little cups of NyQuil and hit the sack.

Holiday Weight

Since I'm not pregnant for what seems like the first time in the last four years, and I don't plan to be anytime soon, I have really been concentrating on losing some of this "baby" weight. Of course by "baby" weight, I mean "cake, cookie, pasta, being married" weight.

I wasn't that diligent this holiday season and gained 3 lbs. I'm not too surprised and it was so worth it so it's no big deal. The funny thing is that I took Kawika back to the doctor yesterday for his 18 month shots (that he cleverly dodged last month by having a double ear infection). Since December 2nd, he has also gained 3 lbs. That takes him to a whopping total of 35lbs. At this age, she said you wanna gain 1 lb every 3 months, not 3 lbs every month. The doctor wasn't too worried because he has also gotten quite a bit taller. Unfortunately, I'm the same height.

Here's a picture that is one of my recent favorites and is my laptop desktop photo. It never fails to make me smile.
Please ignore the messy house in the background (a casualty of the "Christmas Explosion of 2008). I just wanted to share the photo I will send to John's doctor the next time his back goes out. That's a good 70+ lbs up there. It's a good thing I had to dismount to take the picture!
